You hear the word “partnership” tossed around a lot in business. But what does it really mean?
To me, it’s simple: A real partnership means we’re building something together. It’s not just about a contract or a sale — it’s about working side-by-side toward mutual success. Whether it’s our vendors, our strategic partners, or our customers, the relationships we build have a direct impact on costs, operations, and even patient care. When we do our job well, it makes your job easier.
Over the years, we’ve been lucky to work with some amazing partners. One customer, for example, has grown to over 500 locations — and we’ve been by their side for more than 20 years. We give them aggressive pricing, stay flexible to their needs, and consistently go above and beyond. In return, that partnership has helped us grow our own business. It’s been a win-win.
But not every season is smooth sailing.
Toward the end of 2024, I checked in — like I always do — to ask if any changes were coming in 2025. I wanted to be smart about planning: maybe leverage better pricing with our vendors if volume was going up, or hold off on hiring if things were slowing down. I was told everything would stay the same.
Then, without warning, the work started to slow down. I asked if something had changed — no response. A few months later, they shared that they were testing a product that could help them cut costs. It wasn’t about our service, they said — just business.
And honestly, I get it. Everyone’s trying to save money where they can. But when you rely on each other — when people’s jobs, operations, and success are tied together — communication matters. A heads-up can make a big difference.
Not every partnership will be perfect. And not every decision-maker will think about the impact beyond their own four walls. That’s part of business.
But it’s also a good reminder for us: Be the kind of partner you’d want to have. Communicate. Care. Invest in the relationship.
Because at the end of the day, real partnerships aren’t just about the business you win. They’re about the trust you build.
